With this gallery, I’m introducing some of the 2017 images, which I like best. It’s been a great year with lots of things happening in all areas of my life, and I’m happy it went as it did. Right at the start, my family went overseas for the undefined period for personal reasons. I didn’t know if they are coming back and when if they do. My online business skyrocketed and then crashed in a split second. I have decided to travel to New Zealand literally in one day. I have changed my dwelling thrice within the year. Reconnected with my family. Decided to start a photography business and have worked for the last half a year towards this goal. I didn’t photograph as much as I would like to, but still, I’ve got some great shots that I’d like to share with you, my dear readers.
Some achievements in random order:
- Did the 200th interior shoot
- Trained several friends in photography – pilot workshops and it inspired me move on with this
- Did the first few sunrise workshops and received some great feedback
- Preparing my first online editing masterclass
- Reached the Reddit front page a few times
- Made it to the Daily Dozen on National Geographic
- Got a second place in one of the Viewbug contests
- Received a silver medal at the Epson Panoramic Contest
- My blog was named one of the best landscape photography blogs by two reputable sites – Feedspot and Loaded Landscapes
- Nearly finished my most lengthy post so far – Seascape Photography Guide.
Before we begin with the photos, I would like to thank everyone for the support over the year.
Best Australian 2017 Images
Best Ocean Photos
I took these photos in Sydney area, and the locations are Maroubra Beach, Garie Beach, Tamarama Beach, Cape Solander and Watsons Bay.
1. Garie Beach. Long exposure played quite a different role here. It made the water edge look otherworldly while keeping the leading line intact and created an overall surreal look and feel.
2. Garie Beach. Found these sand formations and couldn’t stand it despite the fact the best light was already gone.
3. Tamarama. There is some quiet serenity about this shot.
4. Boora Point. Not many view directions from this spot, but at least this one worked out.
5. Maroubra Beach. Maroubra is one of my favorite locations as I have said many times. Hence, my new 2017 year started here.
6. Maroubra Beach. Sunrise on the 1st of January 2017.
7. Clovelly. There is something extraordinary about the clifftop vistas, as they make you feel united with the world and I think I need to revive, I go to some cliffs.
8. Cape Solander. Unusual rock formations and the starburst effect.
9. Tamarama. A secret spot on the cliffs no one else is aware of.
10. Watsons Bay. Requires a low tide to reach and therefore I go there not too often, but is totally worth it!
Best Desert Landscapes
The desert photos originate from a single trip to Port Stephens. In my NYR I had planned to go there at least three times but then life happened, and I managed to travel to the dunes just once. No regrets, I’ll catch up next year.
1. This black and white photo won a Daily Dozen feature on the National Geographic. Looks overly dramatic due to the clouds!
2. I just like how this leading line works in the photo.
3. I like this photo for the softness and the composition; the steps add another dimension.
4. A mighty sand relief was looking like some pastry or a piece of paper.
Best New Zealand 2017 Images
New Zealand trip was truly fantastic with lots of adventures and fun. It deserves a whole bunch of blog posts, which I have to write one day. The most memorable site was, no doubt, Milford Sound. Such beauty, such grandeur. Such hungry sand flies…
1. An evening view from Mount John, Lake Tekapo. The lake in the photo is Lake Alexandrina.
2. Another view from Mount John. There is some romance about the winding roads.
3. We were going from Lake Pukaki to the Queenstown and stumbled upon this breathtaking lake reflections. Had to stop by!
4. A view from Sealy Tarns track. A very hard 2200 steps track totally worth it. Long exposure is featuring car trails.
5. Another view at the Sealy Tarns top.Â
6. Halfway to the Hooker Lake. Slippery rocks and a mighty river. The color is true cyan due to the glacier nature of the water.
7. Milford Sound vertical panorama. The place is so gorgeous it hard to believe it exists.
8. Another one from Milford Sound. It’s a challenge to catch the reflections with some great light. It took me three days to get all I wanted!
9. Guess what? Milford Sound again! There is a reason it takes so many places in my personal 2017 images chart.Â
10. No jokes, one more Milford Sound. So much drama in this one.
11. Ok, ok, this is the last one.
12. Wanted to shoot some stars but had to stop because I spotted some real-life magic. These lights were faint and dim. Therefore I had to try really hard to capture them, and it turned out they shine!
13. One of the LOTR locations, the Bennet’s Bluff offers some picturesque views on the waterfront.
