Advanced Techniques Workshop

There are multiple advanced techniques in landscape photography that could make the photo stand out. We probably touched base during one of the previous Photography Workshops but sometimes it requires time and focus to master new tricks. We will have a 100% focus on the special skills and knowledge required to master these techniques.

Contents

  1. Long Exposure Photography Workshop
  2. Perspective Blending Workshop
  3. Focus Stacking Workshop

Skill Level Requirements

You must be at least a confident amateur to join any of these lessons. That means, you have to know how camera works, what aperture does, when to raise ISO and must have some experience in shooting landscapes. Some editing skills are also required as some of the techniques include an editing part.

  1. Long Exposure Photography Workshop
  2. Perspective Blending Workshop
  3. Focus Stacking Workshop

Long Exposure Photography Workshop

Duration 2 – 2.5 hours
Location Miami/Kirra/Coolangatta
Participants 1 or 2
Time of day Night-to-day or day-to-night
Price $300 for one or $380 for two

During this workshop, we’ll practice long exposure photography. For the night-to-day shoot, we start well before sunrise, when the shutter speed can easily go up to 60 seconds or more. The sunrise option is good for those who have some experience with long exposure photography. Another option is day-to-night setting and in this case, we start during the evening and shoot all the way into the night.

30 seconds long exposure

We’ll go through:

  • Focusing in the darkness
  • Correct exposure calculation
  • Creative effects using long exposure
  • Long exposure during the day
  • Fake long exposure
  • Filters (ND and graduated)
  • Manual settings

Perspective Blending Workshop

Duration 2 – 2.5 hours
Location Multiple
Participants 1-2
Time of day Any
Price $300 for one or $380 for two

This technique does not have a broad application but when it’s used, it freezes the viewer in awe. The general idea is based on our inner sense of scale that we break confusing our senses and making things look differently.

The workshop consists of three parts:

  1. Finding what to photograph (the hardest part)
  2. Actual photography (the easiest part)
  3. Photoshop blending (the tedious part)

We’ll cover all three, so you need to bring your laptop for the third section.

Focus Stacking Workshop

Duration 2 – 2.5 hours
Location Multiple
Participants 1-2
Time of day Any
Price $300 for one or $380 for two

There are situations when our cameras cannot handle the depth of field whatever the aperture we set. There are two ways to deal with it:

  1. Put up with it and leave part of the photo out of focus
  2. Do the focus stacking

Focus stacking is a way to capture multiple photos with different focal points and then stitching them together to produce a single photo with a great depth of field. The process may look tedious but the final result is well worth it.

I’ll guide you through the process of choosing a subject, planning your future shot, actual photography and editing in the end.

Final Word

These workshops are for those who know how to photograph and need a push to learn something new or struggle with some aspects of the techniques.
